conception and production: artificial skin, ceramic tooth fillings, contact lenses,
replacement knee joints, replacement heart valves, heart-lung machines, drug delivery
systems are just a few.
It is a fast-moving and rapidly growing subject, giving many opportunities in the
healthcare industry, and in postgraduate research and development.
This branch of science cuts across the boundaries of many traditional science subjects,
combining elements of medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and biology with materials science
and engineering subjects.
Material science and engineering is applied to improving diagnosis, therapy, and
prevention of disease and injury, and better substitutes for damaged or disabled
human organs; Studies of biomaterial interactions with the human body, bio-compatibility,
interfacial and interaction problems; Biomechanical behavior under biological and/or
medical conditions; Mechanical and biological properties of membrane biomaterials;
Cellular and tissue engineering, physiological, biophysical, biochemical bioengineering
aspects; Implant failure fields and degradation of implants. Biomimetic engineering
and materials including system analysis as supporter for aged people and as rehabilitation;
Bioengineering and materials technology as applied to the decontamination against
RMRC offers a variety of services to this field of material science. Analysis and
quality control of dental implants prostheses, dental wires, bone plates, hip replacement
implants are part of the work done at this center.
Moreover, in the field of medical science, the analysis and structure evaluation
of kidney stone at chemical and SEM laboratory of RMRC, would help the physicians
to understand the cause of stone build up and necessary treatment to solve the problem.
